Mome Yoga

I am feeling a lot out of shape right now.  Part of my problem is that I don't want to miss out on precious time with my son to go and work out.  Now I can combine the two with Stefani McMurrey Watters Mome Yoga.  It incorporates babies in to the workout by using them as weights.  The moms enjoy the workout while the little ones enjoy the play time and nursery rhymes used through out the yoga poses.  Babies aged 2 months to 2 years are welcome.  It is FREE at Bookmarks at NorthPark Mall in Dallas on Friday's from 10:30 to 11:30 am but there are other classes on Mondays from 11:00 to noon at Cooper Fitness Center at Craig Ranch in McKinney.  She has some cool demonstrations in the press section of her website so check it out if want to know what you are getting into before you go!

Who doesn't want an "Any Way You Want It" Cruiser!

I am more excited about this "find" than any other I have ever found! It is great because it provides healthy, clean, green fun! I met my new friend, Fleetwood, at The Dallas Flea last weekend and I am crazy about his Custom Cruisers from Villy Custom! The cruisers have a fantastic vintage look to them but the modern technology provides a fantastic smooth ride. Of course, I was less concerned about the ride and more concerned with the look! I hopped on the website and I was almost as impressed with the user-friendly site as I was with the actual bikes! The site opens to a page with four bike styles on it, two for men and two for girls. I selected my style and then started putting my new bike together. Each element of the bike can be changed from the tires to the bike chain. There are 14 fender colors, 11 tire colors, 8 chain colors, and 31 seat cover options! The coolest part is that after you select your favorite colors, you can see the changes right there on your "virtual bike." As if that is not enough, you can also change the setting of the site so that you can view your bike in day mode, night mode and neutral!
After careful consideration and a lot of playing around on the site, I picked a white frame, cognac wheels and leather handles. I added a red chain, red cup holder and a red racing stripe! The exciting part is that it only takes three days to get your bike! If you want to pick up your one of a kind custom creation (his showroom is at Mockingbird and Central Expressway) write "free local shipping" in the discount code section and you can go pick it up three days later!
Once you own your custom cruiser, you can keep up with fellow owners on Fleetwoods organized weekend rides! Some weekends he organizes a ride for donuts, other weekends he rides to a wine tasting! Hurry up and order today so that you can have yours in time for his ride on Saturday!

Pink in the Rink

It is not often that you see hockey players wearing pink but this weekend you can! The Texas Tornados partnering with the American Cancer Society Relay for Life in Frisco to dedicate a weekend of hockey to raising funds for cancer awareness. A percentage of the proceeds from ticket sales, pink merchandise, and a Jersey Auction will benefit the ACS! The players will be wearing the one-of-a-kind pink jerseys all weekend in honor of Lisa Flowers, a long-time Tornado fan who served as a host mom to many of the players throughout the years, who lost her battle with cancer last fall. The jerseys will be auctioned off by silent auction throughout the weekend. Last year's auction raised over $10,000!
The Tornado will play the Springfield Junior Blues on Friday March 5th at 7:30 pm, on Saturday March 6th at 7:00 pm and on Sunday March 7th at 3:00 pm. Click here for ticket information or call 972-335-9800. The tickets start at $7 so it is a great way to have some family fun and give a little back at the same time.
Don't forget to mark your calendars for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life in Frisco as well! The 24 relay will begin on May 7th at 6:00 pm and end on May 8th at 7:00 am. It started in 1985 when Dr. Gordy Klatt, a surgeon in Tacoma, Washington, walked and ran around a track for 24 hours straight. Since then it has grown into a relay that involves over 3.5 million people a year in 19 countries! Everyone and anyone is invited to participate. There is $10 entry fee and then you are free to raise as much as you can for a donation. The best way to participate is to put a team together and "camp out" at the track. Each team is encouraged to have at least one representative on the track at a time.

Watch Your Step!

We often talk about how long we should keep a lipstick or the shelf life of our food but we rarely stop to think about the length of time we should keep our athletic shoes! My dear friend Franklin is an avid runner. She works out every day and she works out hard! When I was visiting her recently I noticed that she had two pairs of exactly the same tennis shoes! When I questioned her she told me that it is wise to alternate the same pair of shoes so that they last longer. I thought she was crazy so I did a little bit of research and it turns out she was right (as usual!). The life of a running shoe is much shorter than I would think. Researchers from The University of Texas recommend that you retire your sneakers after 200 miles! The old data used to recommend that you tossed your shoes after 350 to 550 miles! The midsole of the shoe wears down first and the problem is that we can't see that part! The damage really occurs long before we see any wear and tear to the sole of the shoe. The weak midsole causes more stress to our feet and legs and our sneakers loose stability and shock absorption. That translates to an increased chance of injury! So, Franklin was right....again!
All of this sneaker talk let me to order the Reebok Easy Tones I have been wishing for. They claim to help shape legs and "behind" faster! They also make them in flip flops!
